What are some good death metal bands?
What are some good death metal bands, or albums, that you like? I listen to a lot of different types of music and I'm starting to get into death metal, and I'm trying to find some good bands. It doesn't have to just be death metal, I don't mind technical, progressive, melodic, etc. I like some early Arsis stuff for example, but it doesn't have to be just like them. Thanks for reading.
Mike N:
Thanks for the list. I've never heard of most of them, but most of them that I have heard of aren't really death metal. By it doesn't have to just be death metal, I meant it could be technical death, melodic death, or another type of death metal. If you don't mind editing out the ones that aren't death metal, I would probably pick that for best answer. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
A lot of people are saying Slipknot, Metallica, Pantera, and bands like that. By death metal I meant more like Arsis, The Facless, Death, and Necrophagist Anybody know any good bands like these (but not necessarily exactly the same).

Atheist, Cynic, Gorguts, Lykathea Aflame, Morbid Angel, Nile, Obituary, and Pestilence are tech death, some leaning more towards regular death and others being more progressive.
Good melodic death bands are Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, At The Gates, Children of Bodom, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, and Norther.
obviously this list isn't all inclusive, but you can take these artists and search for similar bands from there on last.fm or something like that.

As I Lay Dying is really good, check out the album An Ocean Between Us. With Blood Comes Cleansing is also very good death metal. Slipknot is death metal i think but it verges on demonic.

Arch Enemy
Carcass
At the Gates
Children of Bodom
Dark Tranquility
In Flames
Wintersun
Opeth
Mastodon isn't really death metal, but they're pretty heavy. You may like them.
