How do I housetrain 7 wk. old puppies?
I have two 7 wk. old yorkie puppies. One male and one female. I really do not want to crate them. I work from 8 to 5 and do not want to leave them cooped up all day. I have gated off part of my house and they only have access to two rooms. But I have tried puppy pads and they think they are toys. I have put newspaper down and they tear them to shreads. I watch them closely after I get home and as soon as they squat, I pick them up to go to the paper and they just walk off and pee and poop where ever they want. What else can I do????

it would be helpfull to them and you crate them. its like a den to them, and they wont poop or pee in there den. my dog loves her crate, it would be good also if you came back during lunch breaks to take them out tho

Firstly why do you have pups that are less than 8 weeks old? That is the minimum age for them to leave the Mother dog.
Secondly why did you get two? Most reputable breeders will not allow you to take two litter mates as is such a difficult combination to train both for potty training and obedience training.
So with that said, if you don't want to crate them and you seem to have little experience with dogs, prepare to have your house wrecked and poo and pee everywhere...puppy pads are a useless waste of money and nothing can substitute for good training. When you are there take them out separately every hour, set a kitchen timer to remind you.
Otherwise you would do what sensible people do, train them, crate them and feed them separately and give each pup lots of one on one time with you so they bond to you and not just each other.
Other option would be to find a friend to take one of the pups until the basic training is done, then you will have had time to bond to one pup and train it properly. 7 weeks is very early to expect pups to potty train well when there is so much shredding and playing to do. Please do some research or I can see both of these in shelters as they become unmanageable.

The problem is, no dog can be in a crate from 8-5pm. They need to go pee and poo. You just have to keep them in an enclosed area or leave them with someone who will take care of your dogs (preferably someone who already has a dog or dogs) for a small fee.
