lucid dreaming question/help?

i have had odd dreams my whole life. at a young age i found out i could control them, by theory of logic. meaning my brain said 'this is too odd to be real, therefore it must be a dream, so i am in control'. i have always been strangely realistic and aware. for years i never had problems sleeping, let alone disturbing dreams (not to be confused with nightmares).

i have been an insomniac for at least the past 7 years (and yes, a lot has been going on for those 7 years). my only escape is my sleep and dreams, which have been becoming more vivid and disturbing. every now and then i have great dream i want to stay in, but always wake up, disappointed to not finish the dream. (oh, and wanting to finish the dream is a good night!)

knowing that this is my only, and wishfully, calm time, i want to go back to my youth and be able to have more control in my dream state.

can anyone recommend books, websites, or personal techniques for lucid dreaming. i would hope having a bit of control would lessen my fitful dreams and help with my sleep. i have been in control of my sleep and dreams before, just not as aware back then as i could be today.

please, any recommendations, techniques, etc. would help. i'm at my wits end with insomnia and crazy @ss dreams that leave me feeling even more tired than when i actually fell asleep.

THe art of being able to control your dreams. Isn't it great when you get them?

The following communities give advice and feedback on how you can prolong your dream and better ways to control them.

Dream Views.com is an excellent community and a very, big, and popular one. LD4all.com is another good one. CHeck out Wikibooks:

I'm trying to teach myself how to Lucid Dream. All the stuff I have read though just says throughout your day to do "double takes" on things. Say for instance you look at the time and it says 10:30. Look away, and then look back. If it still says 10:30 or 10:31, then think in your head, "Ok, this isn't a dream." Eventually, (after doing double-takes like that so many times) you will do that in your dream. You will look at something, like a clock, and it will say 5:00. And you will look away, and then when you look back, it will say 2:47. And you will think to yourself, "wait, how is that possible? This must be a dream". And then your lucid dreaming should begin!

    Hope that wasn't too confusing.

(Oh and you don't have to do it with just clocks, you can look at a painting, look away, and look back. If it's still the same picture, well the it's clearly real life. )

When you are ultimate your eyes I love to think an episode on spongebob how he imagines him self in a situation wherein its simply him within a clean. Lol he ultimately controls his goals to showing to different peoples goals. Keep imagining your self within that clean, Then simply get at ease and take a look at to transparent your brain earlier than doing this. That's how I first knew learn how to manage in my goals. Lucid dreaming considering that I was once born
