How can I set up a wireless network?

Okay, I have a wireless router, an external hard drive, a printer (not wireless), and two laptops. I know that I could buy a USB port that would make the hard drive and printer wireless ($90). I'm thinking there has to be an easier way to make those things wireless. My idea would be to hook them up to one of my laptops (an older one running on Windows ME) and set up a wireless network between it and the laptop I use for documents and file storage. Then I could send files to the old laptop for backup or printing. Is this a good idea? If yes, what would I do to set this up. If no, what would be an easier way?

Update:

Ok, my next question is how exactly do I set up a network between them?

Yeah just set up your printer to share on your network, and make sure all the computers have the driver for the printer you share.
