Put the 'I' Back in Britain - sod the Politically Correct.?

Britain has a tradition of free speech. This has now been eroded to the extent that, were it land, the Irish Sea would be meeting the Wash. Why can we not say what we mean, instead of dodging around and having to use euphemisms when we want to raise contentious issues?

Many say but it is harmless but when you try to change a whole countries concept of what they think is right what is the difference from that and Communist crap in right thinking , right thinking fo WHO not us that's for sure . It is that kind of theorist rubbish that has sneaked Sharia law into Britain . What i wish to know have they any concept of what Saria law is . It is the right of a small minority to decide how others act and speak and live their lives whether they like it or not the punishments for not complying are not slap on the wrist more like removing a hand from a wrists of whipping in the street punishment decided on the spot by a few untrained lunatic religious nuts . These PC brigade people are dangerous in the extreme and need putting down now before we all decide that this country is no longer a free society but a ridged brain dead society with no joy or freedom only on their terms , and thousands of years of progress have been thrown down the toilet to accommodate a stone age religion that should have been dead thousands of years ago. What was said in the beginning if we all ignore their edicts and in fact insist on not following them, also make one hell of a noise when they try to ban our culture in favour of a foreign one and last not least vote for the party that promises to ban them and sack the lot of them .Also kick them into the rubbish bin of history were they rightfully belong. For they are a festering sore on our countries backside.

There's a sensible balance between totally free speech and stupid political correctness. Most people can happily say whet they mean, but there are a few who would abuse this and be deliberately offensive. The PC reaction to this is fairly overboard, as epitomised by government ministers like Harriet 'Harperson'. However, much of the old daftness has gone, like the days when GLC employees had to ask for "coffee without milk" instead of "black coffee".

PC is like a fashion - it's continuously moving on to new euphemisms as it gives up the old back to normality. For the vast majority of people who are neither offensive nor stupidly PC, there is no problem saying what you want. This is more an issue of perception rather than reality.

One concern, though, is the increasing pressure to not 'offend' certain religious groups by disagreeing with them. This, of course, is a nonsense. Perhaps it's just a bit of short term diplomacy to not encourage extremists during a difficult time, but it is starting to have implications for freedom of speech. It would still have to get a lot worse to really make a difference practically, but people shouldn't become complacent. Most likely it's just the current PC fashion and will fade away.

My favourite ironic image from all this is the 'crazy beardie' holding up a placard which read "Down with Freedom of Expression"!

Its really not that bad, there are moments of madness but you can still basically say whatever you like without serious consequence, the same as always. You can sit outside parliment with a banner saying they are all shítheads, you might get asked to move along by the police after a while, but you wont be sentenced to death or anything. There are many countries in the world where you would be, they wouldnt even go to the trouble of arresting you, just shoot you. You're very lucky to be living here where you can complain about anything, even complain that you have freedom to say what you like

    England for me,

Who wants to be British these days?

Not the Scottish or the Welsh, they want independence, so that just leaves England

Say what you mean, mean what you say.

Sorry if a few feelings get a bit bruised along the way.

It's not the intent to cause hurt with content,

it's to make plain that which is meant.

It's the same in America. Governments in general like to be in control of things. If they can control the language, they can control the way people think. The people need to learn and realize that, no matter what anyone says, someone is going to choose to be offended. When we all realize that being offended is a choice, I believe more people will start speaking up.

Watch out, foghorn, the PC brigade don't like anyone to question their assumed authority, so proud are they in their own self-righteousness.

All it takes to defeat political correctness is for people simply not to go along with it anymore. It is all a charade by a very small minority of people. The vast majority in Britain are being taken for a ride, for now, by a tiny minority. People are beginning to wake up to what is happening, and realise they don't have to put up with it.

  • I agree, a blackboard is a blackboard, an actress is an actress...let's not pander to the PC lobby.

3 thumbs-down?...strange...most of the answerers here seemed to agree with me...I suppose the thumb-downers didn't have a case to put across.
