How do you report statutory rape?
My former friend is fourteen and her “boyfriend” is eighteen turning nineteen this year. I know for a fact that she’s having sex with him. (I'm also fourteen)
I’ve told him many times that it’s wrong and he’s disgusting for doing such a thing and that he could possibly face criminal charges if he ever got reported by anyone and all he can say is “I know”. My friend and I got into a huge fight and I told her how it was wrong what she was doing and that I was going to “report him” which probably wasn’t a good idea.
The only problem is, she denies ever having done anything with him when they BOTH have told me they’ve had sex. My friend also has told me in the past that she doesn’t feel safe around him, that she often feels like he’s going to hit her but yet she’s still with him. She has pictures of them kissing all over her MySpace page, I don't know if I should print that out before she can change it or if that will even make a difference.
My friend’s family knows that he’s eighteen and they say they have a problem with it but I’m the first one ever taking charge on this.
I’m just doing this in her best interest because I don’t want her to get pregnant or hurt. I also live in Texas, I’m not sure if that will make a difference.
Please Help,
Thanks!

I know you are concerned for your friend, but I think the parents have to take up this issue. I suggest you go to the local police station and speak with them and get informed on how statutory rape can be reported.

It's only rape if one person is over 18 and the other is a minor. They're both minors, so it's not illegal. But if you do report that she is being raped and she's really not, the guy can still get in trouble. If you think that there is no way avoiding it, it must be reported, call 911 if you think she may be in immediate danger and you can request to remain anonymous. (Even though it's not the age problem, rape is still rape) However, if not, there are websites online that are Rape Crisis Centers that have hotlines (they all have different ones, so depending on where you live you may want to call a specific number) and they can help you.

Inless you have proof that she is being forced all the police can do is look into it a little. I don't think they will put it under hard investigation because there is no proof she is being forced and they are both under the age of 18 (america's law) and the law where you live is not being broken than they really don't need to do all that stuff or else the fathers on 16 and pregnate would be in jail. The police have bigger problems like murderers and kidnappers to worry about than teen sex. If you are really truly conserned tell the parents. They will deal with it. If they don't than there is really nothing else you can do about it. Sorry.

As B G and Capra said, contact the police. If he's convicted, he will be required to register as a sex offender. One of the consequences of having to register as a sex offender is that you cannot be within a certain distance of kids including family members. I saw a show on television where dude was convicted of statutory rape. Twenty-fours hours before his release on parole, he was denied. Why? Because of his sister. He cannot be around his own sister!
Anyway, are you prepared for the consequences of your actions? Are you ready and willing to face the heat? You will be the first suspect if your friend and her boyfriend are questioned.
The bigger question is: Why are the parents not doing anything if they do not like the situation?

it's up to her to report it though.
with statutory rape if she says it didn't happen then it's her word against yours. Also, if you report him and he gets convicted, he'd be considered a sex offender and that would follow him for the rest of his life.
ultimately, it's up to your friend and her bf.

I know you're upset and want to help your friend, but I don't think it's your place to report this. They are dating and having sex. If you report this, the repercussions could really hurt both of them, and since they're both consenting to the sex- do you really want to get the police involved? I mean I know it's sickening, hell my sister is 13 and if I EVER found out she was having sex with an 18 year old I'd kill him myself. But something like this should be resolved by your friend, her boyfriend, and their families.
