my ps3 is telling me there isn't enough space?

What it is telling you is that you have only 1768 MB left out of 37 GB. The 37 GB is the original amount of free space. 1768MB is about 1.7 GB. There is hardly any space left.

If you are trying to download demos bigger than 1 gb, it is telling you there's not enough space because it needs extra space to complete the install - even though the demos aren't themselves over 1.7gb.

If you want to keep stuff that is on your ps3's hard drive, I would recommend getting a usb hard drive and copying it over. You can do this with all your music and photos, and with much of the video - except copy-protected stuff from PSN. That is, trailers and such will copy, movie and tv show downloads won't.

You could put a new internal hard drive in there, but that's wasteful, compared to a usb drive which is cheaper and lets you keep using the original hard drive.

For now, you'll probably just have to delete something.

1768MB is how much is left, while 37GB is the total size of HDD. I'd advise you upgrade PS3 HDD with another 2.5in SATA HDD. You need more space & it goes up to 500GB, just fruit for the thought.
