try ditching the milk and dairy products for a few days ......... that may alleviate the nasty pain of acid reflux for you ....... lactose intolerance will produce acid reflux, achy bones, bloating and constipation, excessive belching, excessive gas, ribbony and stringy shaped stools, wet f*arting (sorry, no other way to put it) ....... in the meantime, put a teaspoon full of baking soda into a mug full of warm water, stir up and drink up ...... be prepared to belch loudly and for the pain to increase a little for a few minutes but it will realkalise your system and quell the pain for you........ baking soda does contain an awful lot of processed salt so it wouldn't be appropriate if you have high blood pressure .... otherwise, only use it as a temporary measure and try to pinpoint what is causing the bad digestion ...... bad digestion is the source of your acid reflux....... increase the production of hydrochloric acid in your tummy by chowing down on more leafy and green vegies like broccolli, kale, chard, celery, buk choy .......... all rich in magnesium (known as the antistress mineral) and calcium so also great for brain frizz, stress and anxiety, constipation, insomnia .......... ;0)

drink loads of fresh filtered water too buddy to ensure you are properly hydrated .... your lungs need water to breath, your joints need water to lubricate them, your digestive system needs water to digest food, your brain needs it to think........ every single cellular function your body performs needs water ....... drink up and ditch the sodas, pop and soft drinks if you drink any cos they'll all dehydrate you terribly and keep your body in an acid condition ......... promoting bad digestion.

    peace baby

I had acid reflux severe enough that the Doctors were talking surgery. I wanted no part of that. I was on Prilosec and Nexium. The doses to keep it under control kept increasing. With the increased dosages, the reflux increased with it. I finally said 'enough'. I started drinking Apple Cider Vinegar with every meal. I also use digestive enzymes a half an hour before each meal. I take Acidophillus (sp?) or a multi species bacillus supplement. It took about a year+, but I had my last scope done 3 months ago and had no sign of the precancerous changes that were identified in a previous scope. I found that Tums, and other antacids will make my reflux worse, also. Drink lots of water each day. I drink about a gallon of water every day. I feel it when I don't drink as much. Teas are useful in helping calm your stomach. Ginger root ground fine and steeped for 15 minutes or more is very soothing. Peppermint has slight anesthetic properties, (it makes your lips slightly numb), chamomile has long been valued for its antinausea properties. I especially like a particular tea, it's from The Republic of Tea (brand name) Orange Ginger Mint. I steep that for an hour (when I worked as a Vet Tech, I couldn't get to it for an hour after I made it) and it takes on a lovely spicy-sweet flavor. I don't use any flavoring in my teas, like honey or lemon. Another thing that helps me is to keep myself regular. Lots of fruit and vegetables. Less meat and dairy. I will start to reflux if I become constipated. I use Apple Pectin capsules to help with fiber intake. Go to your local Health Food store. The people who work there are usually pretty knowledgeable. What the allopathic medicine industry doesn't want us to know, is that reflux is usually because we don't have ENOUGH acid to digest our food. The food sits in our stomach and rots, building gas, which is relieved by belching. It will allow acid to wash back up the esophagus. The fact that when I had the scope done before this last one, the Dr. identified goblet cells, (which was never reported to me) and now I don't have them is proof enough for me that I am doing something right.

all the advice you have received so far is very good but I want to add 2 things. elevate the head of your bed. Adding pillows won't work, you need the head end of the bed raised about 3-4 inches. The elevation helps gravity keep your stomach acids from traveling up your esophagus.

Also, do not eat anything, especially spicy for at least 3-4 hours before bed.

My daughter has this and keeps it in good control with just these 2 bits of advice she received from her doctor.

Keep in mind that sometimes remedies aren't necessarily stuff you take to help heal but stuff you can do.
