They apologised simply because they have been found out and it is supposed to help them get out of the fix they got themselves into.

In the public's eye, they are a couple of chisellers, along with a load of other little pigs with their snouts in the trough - which is mostly filled with the taxpayers money. That might be you Bianca, and if not because you arent old enough, it will definitely be your parents. And me.

Had they worked for a public company they would have been sacked or put on caution.

No, more that there is something very wrong with a system that allows MP's such excessive expenses, and allows the same MP's to award these fraudulent expenses to themselves.

Would be considerably better if MP's were allowed exactly the same expenses as everybody else, and for the Tax Authority to set and monitor them rather than our over inflated, self important "fingers in the till" MP's.

Anyway, it might make some of them think to get a real job, rather than voting as instructed by Government.

Personally, I think most politicians have their snouts in the trough and are now just seeing how mich pi55 they can take out of the British public. They should be paid the national average wage (then they'll be aware of what life is really like for most of us), they should have government owned accommodation in London to use (no expenses to claim on second homes), all expenses should be vetted and made public as a matter of course!

Sorry, that feels better! When are the British public going to have employers' rights over MPs, after all, we are their bosses.....!

Billions of pounds of taxpayers money is being squandered and stolen every year by corrupt politicians and Quangos without the press batting an eyelid. She should pay it back but I don't really care about such a petty amount, it's just a distraction from the real problems.
