Funeral customs appear to vary more from community to community than other religious services. The Amish hold funeral services in the home rather than using the funeral parlor. Instead of referring to the deceased with stories of his life, and eulogizing him, services tend to focus on the creation story and biblical accounts of resurrection. In Adams County, Indiana, and Allen County, Indiana, the Old Order Amish use only wooden grave markers, that eventually decay and disappear. The same is true of other, smaller communities that have their roots in these two counties.
After the funeral, the hearse carries the casket to the cemetery for a reading from the Bible; perhaps a hymn is read (rather than sung) and the Lord's Prayer is recited. The Amish usually, but not always, choose Amish cemeteries, and purchase gravestones that are uniform, modest, and plain; in recent years, inscribed in English. The bodies of both men and women are dressed in white clothing by family members of the same sex, women in the white cape and apron of their wedding outfit. After a funeral, the community gathers together to share a meal.

A funeral held in the Amish community is very simplistic as their way of life. The coffin is a plain, unlined wooden casket with hinges. A married woman can be buried in her wedding dress. The deceased and those in attendance at the funeral wear white. There are no eulogies or praises of the dead person, but a sermon of hope for the dead and the living. The graveside is given a simple tombstone identical to the other ones in the church cemetery.

The Amish use cemeteries just like the Mennonites. Most are tied to the families involved, since the Amish typically hold their meetings in their homes (rotating among a group of families).

Yes, the Amish have their own cemeteries. I drive by one on my way to work each day. All the markers are plain and look exactly the same.
