    Academic Course Choices

Please place an "X" on the lines next to the courses recommended by your teachers in the following content areas: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. These are the choices that appear in Virtual Counselor, as input by your current teachers. Please note: students in regular English (non Pre-Adv. Pl.) will take 2 Language Arts courses. The courses are paired on the course selection card as "English I/Reading I." You only need to place one "X" on the line to the left of the pairing. Students—we encourage you to challenge yourselves and take the most rigorous courses possible.

    Elective Course Choices

You will need to select a total of 10 classes. The number of academic courses you have selected will determine the number of elective choices you have. For example, if you have selected 5 academic courses, you will then need to select 2 elective choices and 3 alternate courses, for a total of 10 courses. Please write in your 3 alternate choices on the back of this card.

    Academic Misplacement

If you feel you have been misplaced by a teacher in an academic course, please address the specific teacher that you feel has misplaced you. If your teacher feels you are properly placed and you wish to override your teacher's recommended placement, you may complete a "Parent Preference Form". This form will enable you to enroll in the course you feel you are prepared for. This form must be signed by you and a parent and submitted to a Western staff member the week of April 13 during registration/course selection.

Please ensure your course cards are complete and submitted to a Western staff member during registration the week of April 13. It is imperative that the top portion is filled out completely and accurately, as we work on modifying and finalizing schedules over the summer. We need an accurate email address and contact numbers so we can be assured we are able to contact you throughout this process. If you are NOT planning to attend Western High School next year, you are still required to complete and submit a course selection card. Often times, unforeseen circumstances arise where students end up attending their home school even though they were not planning to do so. Your course selection card will make the transition easier if this occurs.
