Western Influence in India?

Hey...can anyone help me?

I can't seem to find any good information on western influence on India AFTER WWll...

All I know is that India got its independence form Britain in 1947. But other than that..I can't find anything on it!

If anyone has additional info and WEBSITES, I would be SOOO grateful!

Thank you.

Look at the progression of Indian films. Look at Bollywood films and you'll see the effect of westernizing on the Indian psyche. That would be a good start. Also, see that in the 90's India opened up it's doors to western businesses (e.g. McDonald's, Domino's etc) and that has changed it as well.

I don't think western is to be blame for anything. I am an Indian and India is like Monkey see Monkey do. I think India is not only doing what the western does but they are going beyond, and it is sad becuase our culture is what makes us who we are worldwide and now we hardly have any of that. For eg. the indian movies, they are worst than wester movies the way the actor and actress dress and behave, I feel like the indian movies cannot be seen in a room with family anymore because you dont know what to expect. Bottom-line is we need to keep our culture alive, becuase that's what makes us respectable and beautiful people on the face of this earth.

India tried hard to assert its independence and to avoid Western influence. India was a founding member of the Non-alligned countries, but was probably closer to the U.S.S.R. than the U.S.A. during the Cold War. That is one reason why the U.S. shed so much aid on Pakistan.

India was one of the major beneficiaries (or victims) of the Green Revolution and John Kenneth Galbraith was U.S. ambassador under JFK. You might look into those.

India sends thousands of students abroad, and thousands of Indians emigrate to Britain, Canada, and Australia. These certainly "influence" India.

India separated into two after Independence. Pakistan and India.

They went downhill rapidly and are in constant conflict.
