Will I be considered a resident of the state if I've been attending college there for over a year?
I'm hoping on going to the University of Michigan next year, and I was wondering if for my second year at the university I would be considered a resident of Michigan since by the time I reach this second year, I will have been living in Michigan for a year already. Thanks.

No, you won't be considered in state after a year, there is much more to becoming a resident than simply living there. The main thing two things that will hurt you is
1. you can't count time enrolled in college towards residency requirements. You can pretty much depend on, 'Once an out of state student, always an out of state student." Which is why most people choose to attend in their home state.
2. You moved to that state for the purpose of education.... it's the biggie.
I'm attaching the residency requirements for the Univ of Michigan... you will need to scroll down a bit to see the regs.

You have to have changed your permanent residence. So if you are living in the dorms and then go home out of state during breaks and summer, then no. If you have an apartment there for a year, and you live there year round, then yes, you can do it.
