Would a 34 cm. Saddle work for my 32 cm. horse?
My mare needs a new saddle, as my old one is causing her to be back sore. I have been looking around, and I found a 34 cm. saddle for sale. She is however, measured for a 32 cm. She's not done growing, she's only 4 and she is a draft cross. Do you think that'd work for her, or it'd be bad for her back?
It's a really, really nice saddle that has only been used as a demo, but it is half of it's retail price. She is very green, about 80 days under saddle.
I also just had a saddler come out and do tracings on her back, so I'm sending the tracings to the company with the saddle so they can measure the saddle to the tracings, and tell me what they think (they are a custom saddlery place, too.)
I say she's not done growing because she is going to get MASSIVE in the shoulder, and neck area. So if I do get the saddle, should I put an extra baby pad, or a half pad in it with the regular pad?

The 34 should do her good. A little bit bigger would not matter, she isn't done growing as you said.I think a 34-36 would help her back. Say you put a 2x4 on you back and put some pressure on it, your back would hurt...bad. You are simply just increasing the surface area of the saddle. 2 cm will not make a difference unless you are just STARTING to train her. (It can throw off her training) Once she gets a new saddle on her it takes a while for her back, and the saddle, to mold and form to one another. If you are just starting to train her just use a thick, thick saddle pad for her back. That should help a lot in terms of her sore back.

What brand is her current saddle? What brand is the saddle that your looking to buy? As a 32cm saddle by one brand will be different from that of another brand.
For example my narrow-medium built TB takes a custom built 28-29cm Stubben saddle and a 31cm Prestige saddle.
My TB has a huge shoulder as well and that is why the Stubben needed to be custom.
Can you get the saddle on trial, have the saddle fitter check if it fits, and return it if it doesn't? Tracings are a start, and they should be able to give you some information from them.
I wouldn't use saddle pads to try and make a saddle fit your horse- a good fitting saddle shouldn't need any saddle pads whatsoever.
Hope this helps!

you could have a saddler come out and get a them to show you what saddle would be good, or get a semi custom saddle.....
