Why can't you put a horse in it's stall with it's legs wet?
Please help me settle a bet between myself and a friend! Why can't you put a horse in it's stall with it's legs wet?
12 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHelp with a green mare please!!!?
I have a five year old mare who has been giving me some issues lately. She's finally started to come into her own, and figure everything out, like her gaits and things. Now, she is too confident, and is anticipating what I'm going t ask her to do. She starts trotting before I want her to, and she gets worked up when I ask her to come back down.
Also, she has been fresh at the trot and canter. Not responding when I ask her to slow down, and flinging her head up when I do. I think she flings her head up because I caught her mouth last week when I got frustrated, and now she does it more often. Can you help me please?!
7 AnswersHorses1 decade agoI'm having some problems, is it normal?
So, I'm having a hard time convincing myself somedays to ride. I have no doubt in my mind that my mare is the best part of my life, and that I want to spend every minute I can with her. I just don't want to ride anymore. I'm 16, is it normal/okay to feel like this?? I'm confused, and guilty. I feel bad for feeling like this, my mare doesn't deserve someone who doesn't want to ride her...
10 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHow important is turnout to a horse's health?
I have a young mare, and I feel that she does not get turned out enough. She gets turned out for about 2 hours per day. I'm trying to convince my mom to let me go to a barn that is a little farther away, with much better turnout. What is somethings that would be a benefit for this, and what are some affects a horse could get from not being turned out enough?
8 AnswersHorses1 decade agoAsking price for my saddle?
I have a friend who is interested in purchasing my saddle. It if 5 or 6 years old, well taken care of, with the exception of a tear in the seat from my jeans rubbing it for 4 years straight. Has everyday wear and tear, but has been professionally oiled once a month every month up until 6 weeks ago, when I got a new saddle because it doesn't fit my growing mare. I bought it for $800 then, what do you think I should ask for it now?
5 AnswersHorses1 decade agoBlanket sizing question? Help please!?
My draft cross mare is 4 years old. She is not yet quite as thick as she is going to get. If she measures a 74/75" blanket now, would I be able to get a way with a 76" blanket this winter? She is a draft cross, so she is broad. I'm ordering them off ebay, so I don't think I can return them...
2 AnswersHorses1 decade agoCausing my mare ulcers?? Help?
I have a young, green, and slightly sensitive mare. Today, I was sweeping around her, as she gets nervous with the broom, so I was desensitizing her to it, or so I thought. My farrier looked at me and laughed, and said that I was causing her to get ulcers! Mind you, to my knowledge, she doesn't have them, but could I really be causing her to get them? How would you know? Please help me, I'm scared.
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWould a 34 cm. Saddle work for my 32 cm. horse?
My mare needs a new saddle, as my old one is causing her to be back sore. I have been looking around, and I found a 34 cm. saddle for sale. She is however, measured for a 32 cm. She's not done growing, she's only 4 and she is a draft cross. Do you think that'd work for her, or it'd be bad for her back?
5 AnswersHorses1 decade agoMy young mare needs cross tie help!!?
So, I have a four year old mare. I've had her for about two months now. She had barely ever been handled before I got her, so I've had to do a lot of work. And still do!
Last weekend, there were a bunch of young kids running around the barn. One of them run up behind her, and then ran into a broom that hit her while she was on the cross ties. Now, whenever she hears somebody behind her on the cross ties, she starts jumping around and gets really nervous. Can you give me some ideas to start getting her confidence back about being on the cross ties? Please help me, I feel so bad for her. I don't know what to do!
3 AnswersHorses1 decade agoI need help finding my friend a set of tall boots?
My heavier friend is looking for a new set of tall field boots. She needs a 17.5" calf and a 18" height. Is there any place that makes boots in these upper sizes? She fits in Ariat half chaps, but not boots...
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoI usually don't ask, but I need help with a show name?
My new mare, Twist, needs a show name. I need help, I can't figure a good one out for myself. I want it to be sassy, or cute, or like an alcoholic drink or something. She's a chestnut, if it matters... Please help!
I've thought of these little ones (kind of lame, but... I couldn't think of anything!!)
Lime Twist
Maple Twist
Redheaded Sl*t
12 AnswersHorses1 decade agoMy green mare is twisting her head?
I have a very, very green (I mean, today was her 30th day under saddle.). I ride her in a loose ring snaffle, and she holds her head kind of funny when she goes. Sometimes, she tilts her head. My trainer said she is looking for me to touch her face (pressure on the bit), to reassure her. Has anyone ever experienced this? Is it bad, or just a phase? She's a really nice ride (we're starting to trot now!), and I was just wondering if anyone else has ever seen/ridden anything like it.
Oh, and she just had her teeth done, so I know it's not that... My saddle is slightly small, could that be affecting it? (Getting it refitted to her in 2 weeks.)
6 AnswersHorses1 decade agoPink on a chestnut mare anyone?
So, I already asked this question a few weeks ago, but I cannot find it in my questions to look back and see what people answered. I have a chestnut, with a flaxen mane and tail mare. Do you have any thoughts about me making her barn color pink? I found a fantastic pink halter, and it has sparkles on it, so it fits her personality perfectly! Some people at my barn have told me that she'd look bad. I'll post pictures if you'd like...
16 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHas anybody here ever used "Rhythm Beads"?
I have a very green mare, and I've heard the the Rhythm beads are great for desensitizing, as well as a good tool for natural horsemanship. Can anyone tell me any good experiences with them, as well as how they really work? I want to do all I can to keep my mare's mind as great as it is now!
2 AnswersHorses1 decade agoTo wrap, or not to wrap? Any pointers?
I have a new 3/4 year old draftx mare. She is really green, we are just starting her cantering. I want to make this a good experience for her, and for her to be healthy through everything. Should I wrap her legs, or leave them be? We're taking it slow, I'm only working on her cantering once or twice a week so she doesn't get pushed too much. I don't want to overface her. If this horse was older, I'd wrap no matter what, but I don't know if wrapping her this young will have any ill affects on her later in life...
11 AnswersHorses1 decade agoPink on a chestnut mare anyone?
I just got a chestnut mare, and she is absolutely the PRINCESS of the barn, no doubt! I want her to go in pink because of this, but somebody told me that she won't look good in it. She's almost a roan colored, with a flaxen mane and tail. What do you think? Has anybody put pink on their chestnuts, with success??! Thanks!
10 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat would you do with a greenie?
I have a FANTASTIC new mare. She really is (sorry, I'm excited!)
Anyway, only downfall is how green she is. She's pretty good at the tort (once you get her going!) Any ideas on how to trim up her transition to trot (it takes a while of squeezing to get her to go ..) and on how to start her at the canter??
Also, any fun Natural Horsemanship stuff I can do with her regarding ^ or just for fun (I'm already doing the 7 games with her) would be great, I want to keep her as confident as she is!!
3 AnswersHorses1 decade agoCan a breastcollar be used as a breastplate? Is there a difference?
I'm looking at a custom tack website, and I was wondering if a western breastcollar is the same thing as a breastplate, (they come in really fun colors!) or if you can use them the same way, at least for schooling. I don't really even know what the difference is! Please help!
5 AnswersHorses1 decade agoDo you think I look too big on her?
I tried out a mare today, and I am in LOVE with her. But is she too small for me? I'm 5'6", and she 15.2 (keep in mind, she's only 3, so she's still growing!)
17 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat's the deal on wolf teeth?
I'm looking at a four year old mare this week, and I really like her (this is time #2 to see her!). I'm not sure if she has had her wolf teeth out, but then again, I don't know much about them. Can you just inform me a little about them? Why do they need to be taken out? DO they need to be taken out? At what age do most horses get them taken out?
Thanks in advance!
