Players whose nicknames you can't stand?
I can't stand "K-rod" >.< makes me cringe..
Ever since Francisco Rodriguez went through the minors to the major leagues i have been calling him Frankie... K-rod sounds unnatural.. but that's just my preference.
since it seems like nicknames are lacking in originality (well you can't blame people for not being more creative.. or can you? ^^) i have a game you can participate in if you wanna.
Make up some nicknames for the following players/managers (if they already have nicknames i guess you can just put it down)
Derek Jeter <-- ("The Captain" or "Cap" sounds weird to me.. sometimes i say Jeets lol that's weird too actually)
Albert Pujols
John Smoltz
Bobby Cox
Cliff Lee (I want to call him "The Chief" you know like Indian? chief? head of the.... okkaaay that's embarrassing lol moving on!

Pujols- Dominican Machine
Smoltz- The Brave One

Never thought about nicknames I didn't like. Now that you mention it, "Splendid Splinter" always sounded to writer-made-up to me. Just like "Bullet Bob" for Bob Turley. No one can tell me the players ever called them that. There might be others. But I want to try my hand at making a nickname!
Derek Jeter -- DJ
Albert Pujols -- I like "Prince Albert". If he need a new one, I'd say, "Yes he can." He's the one player who always does something when I watch.
John Smoltz --- Ironsides. Old as hell. Still good.
Bobby Cox -- Big Cox. Or Chicken Cox. No reason for that one. Just sounds cool.
Cliff Lee -- Cliffly.
Joe Torre -- Big Town
How was it?

A-Rod, K-Rod, I-Rod any other Rod, Man Ram and Han Ram or any other Ram.

Any duonomen diminutive (short forms of two names), like "Man Ram" for Manny Ramirez. It's too forced, too "JLo" (barf).
Last name diminutives in general are sloppy. "Yaz", "Bags", these worked; very natural (and in the case of Yastrzemski, desperately needed). "Jeets" is weak; what, saying "Jeter" (or "Jetah") takes too much effort? Please.
Also don't much like forced rhymes, like "Bad Vlad".
