Should I apply for a credit card to buy an HD TV?
I'm a college student who doesn't have enough cash on me right now to buy a TV with my debit card. I will be starting a job in about a month and was curious if I apply for a credit card and buy the TV with it, would I be able to pay the TV off in monthly increments and not be charged if I could not pay off the full price in a month?

I would recommend getting a Visa card. Visa will double your warranty on all electronics if you charge it on their card free of charge. Your other option would be to finance it through the tv brand. Mitsubishi is offering 0% for 24/36 months right now.

Well there's a lot of things to consider. Are you looking for a credit card in general or a store credit card? Also, how good IS your credit? Some places will turn you away if you have bad or no credit. And if you DO get one from say... a store, you'll probably be paying double for the TV than it's worth. My advice is to look on craigslist is you need a TV under the free section (it would be a good "for now" TV and with the digital conversion coming people are looking to get rid of perfectly good analog TVs that will work with a low-cost converter box. As for finding a place with good priced on HDTVs, try newegg.com .

i would only suggest you pay by credit card if you find a place that will give you a same as cash offer. best buy right now is offering 12 or 18 months same as cash on any purchase over 500$. this would give you a year to pay off the tv, with no interest. but keep in mind if you dont pay it off in time, you will owe likely 20+% interest for the whole year.

Don't get a credit card just to buy a TV. To buy the TV use something like BillMeLater. It is a program that pays in full your purchase price and allows you to pay it back in monthly installments (or all at once). But, make sure you have all of the funds paid back by the repayment period to avoid surcharges (usually 3-6months).

I 2nd the bill me later concept - in which you can do it in installments. One of the biggest mistakes I made in college was the credit card issue. It becomes a necessity when it should not be and puts you in debt quickly if you don't monitor carefully. Avoid the pitfall I had to work myself out of. Or go with QVC or one of those that have the installment situation but the price not to high (like the rent to own stores - be careful with these they really get you on the interest over the long haul).

Most credit cards being offered now for people without credit history can have an interest rate as high as 32%! So even if you pay the minimum each month on time, the actual balance goes up each month. That's crazy.
So what you need to do is get a cheap used t v from craigslist.org. Or save up for a new one.
Don't go into debt. Save for stuff.

tesco is doing a credit card with no interest on purchases for 12 months i believe. so that may be a option or you can buy now and pay in 12 months time from currys ..prc direct rgb.co.uk etc and you can save the money within 12months and pay if off ..But you must pay within 12months other they charge you about 27% interest from the day you took out the agreement.

I dont know whats the situation with banks in your country, but here my brother bought HDTV Via credit, after the 4/12 months of paying he checked how much money is there left to pay and they told him that he has just paid the bank interest money and that the left 8 months he is going to pay TV Price.
Ill never ever take any credit, its all betray !

Fundamentally, you should not purchase a TV if you cannot afford it. The best to do is save up then buy the TV when you get enough ahead. If you use a savings account, it could earn interest.
Otherwise, finance it through the retailer.

Don't get a credit card for a TV. Use this company, they give you credit and low monthly payments. Check it out. . . shop.worldwec.com
Hope it helps.
