Moving into a new place where i don't know anyone so i need a friend ( Dog ). Help me pick one please ?

1. Has to be a apartment type dog

2. Non- Shedding or minimum shedding

3. Small breed please

4. Good healthy breed that can jog

5. Has to be a good dog for Texas weather

I was thinking about a Chinese crested dog, miniature Schnauzer, Bishon Frise, or a Yorkshire terrier.

I am going to foster then adopt because i do not want to have to get a dog then take the dog back so i am going to foster then if it is the dog for me i will adopt it.

I found a good site. It is a match your breed. You give some information about your lifestyle. And the site shows breeds that would fit it.

    Here is the site.

    http://www.eukanuba.com/EukGlobal/en/dog-breed-sel...

These two sites have more information on dog breeds.

    http://www.pets.com/breed

Most animal shelters have foster projects. I suggest going to your local shelter and see if they foster dogs.

If you go to your local animal shelter and talk to the staff there, they will be able to help you pick out a dog that fits your needs, as they work with their dogs many times per day. Be prepared to be put on a waiting list for a particular purebred, and keep in mind that mixed breeds make excellent pets. You can also do a search for a specific breed rescue in your area using an Internet search engine.

This is my opinion, but I think you are doing a great thing by adopting a dog. Pound puppies make great pets!

Chinese crested and yorkies might be a bit to small to be jogging. They practically jog just to keep up with a human walk. A westie would probably be a good fit. Be careful with the boston terriers and jogging in TX because they are a short nose breed, which means they are prone to overheating. This is especially worse in warm humid climates, like TX. If they seem to be panting or having trouble breathing when jogging, you need to stop and get them cooled off.

If you are interested in something bigger, weimeraners (I can't spell) are wonderful indoor dogs. They actually hate to be left outside alone, but love to romp and play outside with their people.

I ran track in school, and my jack russell was a great companion. The heat and humidity never phased her, and she was big enough to keep up. Plus, they absolutely love to run and have sooooo much energy. I would adopt an adult if I went with one so they would be more calm. They live to be around 16-17 and sometimes up to 24. Mine is around 14 now and she is still going strong.

Google for dog foster in what ever part of Texas your in. Learn about the breeds you are looking for, Keep in mind the vet bill and grooming bill, as well as the dogs trends, likes and dislikes. But of the dogs you have listed the Bishon has the better temper and less shedding, but higher grooming.

toy poodle would be a great dog. they dont shed and are very intelligent. actually, they're known to be one of the most intelligent breeds (along with a few other breeds of course). i hear they are very willing to please, loyal, obedient, and of course smart. they're coats will be easy to maintain as well (as long as you keep it clipped for texas weather). they will be energetic enough for daily jogs and you can choose from a variety of colors unlike the other dogs you mentioned above. (oh and boston terriers will shed... even if its just little hairs)

not to mention, terriers in general can be high maintenance as they are known to chew, dig, bark, etc. because they are HUNTING dogs. and boston terriers tend to be gassy, drool, and snort... some people find this cute, but just keep that in mind.

Try Boston Terrier, Mini Pincher, Mini Sheltie, or for a dog to jog keep up, and does very littile for any shedding try a mini Greyhound they are also very sleek.

you want a dog that is small and can jog. remember the smaller they (and their legs) are, the slower and less they can run. i have a maltese (keep the hair short-cuter and no shedding) he is a good small dog, can jog slowly around the neighborhood with me, but cant seriously run(at full sized human speeds) for more than a few minutes. dont get a pure-bred though because they are more likely to get diseases

  • A chihuahua might be a great choice! Find a nice one, I found mine through a friend. He is a BEAUTIFUL dog and he is sweet as can be. He's now 6-8 years old, we're not quite sure!

Here's a few tips on training!

NEVER SAY NO! And NEVER slap your dog! If he's doing something you don't like, Say loud and quickly; "AH AH!" They will usually IMMEDIATELY stop. If it starts to get on your leg, yell AH AH! and turn from him and ignore him until he calms down. And also, do not pull/mess with their tails. They hate that! And also, don't mess with him while he's eating! I hope I've helped. =D

If you want a dog that will run with you and is a healthy breed i would definetly suggest the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. they are very loving and are a good size for your living.
