Should potatoes go UNDER or ON TOP of beef in slow cooker pot roast?
I've read both.
In other words, should beef cook in juices/gravy with taters on top or should taters cook in juices/gravy with beef on top?

I read in an article about a year ago, the beef should go on top, but really I think its a matter of personal choice. I prefer putting the beef on the bottom, but like I said its a choice. I add bullion and pepper and slap it in the slow cooker, so it cooks well. I add the vegtables later so they dont cook and turn to mush under the meat.

On top, the steam from the beef and the juices/fat from the beef will cook the taters and give them a separate flavor. just cover and everything will be cooked perfectly. add a little beef stock to the pan before cooking for a juicer roast and a heartier flavor

Put the potatoes on top. But, here's a secret I learned, get carrots and lay across bottom, put roast on top. Fat drips down, then you have the choice of making gravy. And the carrots flavor the meat. You can discard them when done.

Cook the beef under the potatoes since it will take longer to cook and the beef will be closest to the heating element....baste the potatoes often so they don't dry out

of course it should be on top! otherwise it could be burnt on the pot!
to give the best results, braise it so slowly to the point that the natural juices of the beef would make the dish so tasty!

I usually mine on the bottom with the carrots. Big chunks.
Then you never have to lift the lid to "baste" them, that defeats the purpose of a slow cooker.

I do believe on top or the bottom, i have done both ways.
I normally follow my crockpot recipe book either way you will have a good meal
No worries =)
