Do i have a right to not pull over if a policeman signals that i should unless i'm a in a lighted area?
A friend said that if i reduce my speed and go to a properly lighted area i won't get in trouble. I'm not an american and i'm visiting the states soon.

In California, the police lights MUST be red AND blue, or else it's not an official police car...in Massachusetts, the lights MUST be all-blue...in most Ohio cities(including the Ohio Hughway Patrol), the lights MUST be all-red!...
If you see the lights behind you and you take this tip to heart, you shouldn't have any problems...plus make sure you have your consulate's phone number handy(in case of police brutality!)...
Good luck!

If it is an unmarked car, then yes. If it is clearly a normal patrol vehicle, you best pull over right away.. If you have an unmarked car you can use your celph to dial 911 and let them know you are going to a lighted area, and also request a marked unit respond because you are scared and not sure if the car following you is real or not.

Baldwin's right!...but also a warning: not ALL police cars in the USA are black-and-white...it depends on the state/city you're visiting...like in Florida, the Highway Patrol cars are lime-green over dark evergreen...in Edmonton(Canada), the police cars are yellow with checkerboard stripes(like taxis!)...

Some cops will be jerks, and they will try to get you on resisting arrest.
A friend of mine was on the highway, and got pulled over, so they slowed down and merged to the rightmost lane (the slow lane) for his and the cop's safety, and the cop yelled at him for it.
Patrol cars should have dashboard cams, this would prove your innocence, I don't think any court of law would interpret you slowing down and going to a safer area as resisting arrest.

Yes.
If you feel as though it is not safe to pull over where you currently are, you can continue until you are in a well-lit (safe) area.

Obey the laws and you won't have any problems. And stay out of bad neighborhoods at night and you won't have any problems.
