I'm looking for a decent credit card to begin building my credit... anyone have a card to recommend?

Or anyone who can find me a good card with no annual fee and low interest/no interest for a year... well, you'll get a best answer, haha. I've been looking around but don't really know enough about credit cards to find a good one that won't leave me screwed over one way or the other. All I'm planning on doing with it is spending a small amount of money off of it each month and then paying it right off to build a credit history, so I don't need a huge limit or anything.

I'd love to hear about any good or bad experiences with specific cards/companies.

:)

Try Capital One or Orchard Bank if you have no credit history. You will get a low limit to start off, but if you show over a years time that you aren't irresponsible, they may raise the limit for you. If you cannot get those credit cards, the only other one you can get is a secured card. Having a checking account and a debit card does NOT build or count as credit.

My fiance's dad has had quite a few credit cards...He's told me many times the two he liked the most were Capital One and American Express. I have Chase, and I can't stand it. I don't know if it's just me, but I've always had horrible experiences with their customer service..

One thing I want to point out though, no matter what you choose, make sure you read EVERYTHING. Don't get stuck with a card that has annual fees - you will have to pay them even when you don't use the card. My sister fell into that one and regrets it greatly. Best of luck to you!

There are pro's and con's to credit card accounts. Especially with many new fee changes in the credit card industry. Usually "Money" magazine runs a breakdown of the top credit cards & the breakdown of the pro's and con's. If you do any traveling internationally (vacations?) you will want to check out the fee structure for international fees. These fee's can run anywhere from .08 to 3% of your charge. If you view any card online they are required by law to provide you with the breakdown of all charges. You will have to compare them to determine which one provides the most advantages to you. Most cards provide "Rewards" if you want to pay an annual fee.

If you have $500 in a savings account, you can convert it into a secured credit card. Most banks can set it up for you. Make sure they belong to the credit bureau. Just use it for gas or small items and always pay the balance.
