How come my download speed is so slow?

I've taken a couple of tests on the internet where they test your download and upload speed. My download speed is around 4.6mb-5mb and upload speed around 0.4mb.

So in theory I should get around 500 kbs (4mb/80 when downloading something, right? However I commonly get 20 kbs or sometimes even 2 kbs. I rarely get something like 70 kbs.

How come my download speed is so slow when i download actually files?

Update:

BTW I'm using wireless internet with an 'n' router.

Does wireless internet affect how quick your downloads are?

Update 2:

Sometimes I get a better speed by taking my laptop to the wirless router but sometimes it stays around 15 kbs.

Obviously using an ethernet cable would increase the speed as it's more stabe. Try a cable.

The problem is probably not your router, to check see if when u use an ethernet cable between the computer and router and see if its still slow, if it is im not sure about the problem. But if you download at high speeds it could be the router broadcasting or your computer's wireless receiver. Try using another computer with wireless to check if that computer downloads slow.

The download speeds are with special files that are quick to download. It is not a problem, and a common overclocking.
