Why is Polygamy Tolerated in Canada?

It's ILLEGAL in Canada- but the government doesn't do anything about it!

Why is it being tolerated and ignored??

Canadians have been very tolerant of the open polygamy and abuse practiced by the FLDS in Bountiful BC.

They generally are generous and tolerant people, and there are always groups who will want to take advantage of that. I think the FLDS have pushed even the Canadian limit now, however.

    WInstone Blackmore was arrested finally.

If countries don't crack down on it, they are in for a wild ride from Islamic and African immigrants. Ask any Brit and Frenchman.

You probably have the story a little mixed up. It is illegal to enter into a marriage contract with more than one person, but it is not illegal to have sexual and romantic relationships with multiple people and the same time. You are probably thinking that the latter is illegal, which it isn't.

In the United States, marrying more than one person is illegal. However, if you are married by a religious group, but still don't have a legal marriage contract, that is okay.

Personally, I don't think that there's too much of a problem with polygamy. Historically, it's been really patriarchal, but I know people who don't treat it that way. I don't think there's much wrong with a group of people loving each other, unless they are brainwashed like in the compound in Texas or forced into the relationship like in Saudi Arabia.

It's secretive and not a whole bunch of people are doing it. It's like how in the USA polygamy is illegal but some Mormons in Utah practice it. It's not exactly tolerated because most people like monogamy but since nobody is directly hurt by it it's just ignored by outsiders.

In Canada there is a separation of Church and State - in other words, it's not the government's business what happens in your bedroom(s).

What we do not tolerate is sexual abuse, child brides, human trafficking, abuse of power, emotional absuse/control etc.

Who says it's tolerated in Canada? Maybe the people just haven't been caught.

Its not that big of a deal for the government, maybe spirtually but otherwise, nobody cares that much.

Who gives a crap? It's a concern if someone is FORCED into a polygamous relationship. But if everyone is open and honest about it, and they're okay with it, what business is it of yours?

Because no one has made a big enough fight about it. We have other more pressing matters to deal with. Plus our government is full of retards.. :D

Canadians are more advanced than us in one important area: MINDING THEIR OWN FREAKIN' BUSINESS
