Mythology attached to 'Marek?'?

I am trying to remember if the name 'Marek' or 'Merek' is attached to any mythological tales. I keep thinking he's related to the sea in some way, but I am having a tough time locating myths where a Marek is mentioned. Can you think of any?

Update:

Apparently Wikipedia isn't my friend. I need better answers than that.

Hmmm. I know of a Melek, as in Melek Ta'us (Peacock King/Angel) of theYezidi belief, however I doubt that is what you are thinking of. The only other thing I can think of is the Tari Merak, or the peacock dance. Heh, interestingly in the first case Ta'us is what translates to peacock, while in the second Merak stands for peacock. Your mention of the sea makes me think the name is likely to begin with "Mer" related to "marr", "mere", "muir" and a whole slew of others meaning simply "sea" or "lake" in a variety of European languages. Often times a mythological creature's name will describe it, as in mermaid (sea-maiden), werewolf (man-wolf), etc. Good luck!
