x^2 -18 = 0
We want to isolate the x, so we move the -18 over to the right.
so x^2 = 18.
We want to find x, and since x^2 = 18,
we sqrt(18)
x= ±sqrt(18) = ± 4.243
Anything squared(whether positive or negative) gives a positive value

x^2-18=0
x^2-18+18=0+18
x^2=18
Square root of x=square root of 18
x(which is square root of x^2)=whatever the square root of 18 is

x^2 - 18 = 0
Add 18 to both sides of the equation.
x^2 = 18
Take the root of both sides.
x = (sqrt)18
or
x = (sqrt)9 * (sqrt)2
or
x = 3(sqrt)2

(a+b)(a-b) =a^2 -b^2
x^2 -18=0
(x-sqrt18)(x+sqrt18)=0
x=sqrt 18 or -sqrt18
x= 3sqrt2 or -3sqrt2
