Who would have thought it would be Iowa?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090403/ap_on_re_us/io...

Who would have thought that IOWA would have been the third state to legalize gay marriage? Hopefully it holds up. Right now, I'm very proud of the state where my grandparents were born!

Update:

AJ: I agree...we do...but we are getting there slowly but surely. It's just amazing to me that a smaller state, generally considered conservative is the third state to do this.

Update 2:

Lost: seven years ago my partner and I stood up in front of our friends and family; with a Christain minister officiating and promised to love, honr and cherish one another forever. If that isn't a marriage (and one I believe God is proud of) then I'm not sure what is.

Why not Iowa? Iowa is actually a very important state politically, it's always a swing state and often calls elections.

And don't worry, we'll get NY and CA soon enough.

And Lost in Matrix, choose your words carefully. I'm pretty sure that saying marriage is only a Christian ritual will make Muslims, Jews, Hindus, etc, quite upset that you don't recognize their marriages either.

Saying things like that just make you sound ignorant.

Just how many gay couples are there in Iowa ? I just don't see Iowa as being a hotbed (no pun intended) of gay rights activism.
