Will insurance cover additional roofing costs?
I'm having my roof replaced after hail damage. The roof is old and was already in bad shape, but the insurance company agreed to replace it. I'm sure it had leaks which were patched up before we moved in. The insurance company has already given me a check to have the roof replaced and the adjuster told us to call him if the roofer discovers additional costs. I'm concerned that the decking will need to be replaced due to previous leaks. Will the insurance company pay to replace rotting wood if it's discovered or will this be my responsibility?

Rot is excluded by most policies. If the decking has to be replaced due to rot, that probably will not be covered.
However, roof decking is cheap. It's getting the shingles off and replacing them that is the expensive part. So you only come out of pocket the cost of the decking.
The price of shingles is very volatile right now. They change almost daily. So a quote you got this week....my not be enough 2 weeks from now. Odds are, the adjuster was referring to if there is a change in the price of materials and the original estimate was not enough. Then call him.

You had a leak in your roof that was weather related that is why it was covered it be old and needing to be replaced did not matter I had shingles that blew off my roof and needed a new one at that time anyways I new the laws in the state I lived in since I did homeowners insurance at the time and new it would be covered and by law in my state they cannot up my premium by law I can have 1 weather related loss per year. rotten wood will not be covered however for example if you had another weather related damage that made your deck collapse or something like that the deck would be covered. Most home owners insurance policies cover for the outside weather related issue that cause damage, fire, vandalism, if a tree fell caused damage to your property that would be covered as well.

Insurance covers things that are sudden and accidental. Rotten wood happens over a long period of time. Insurance will only pay for the cost of the roofing materials and labor to install it. It will not pay for additional costs such as rotten wood.

Be arranged for a hefty added top type at audit. the two the final criminal accountability coverage and the employees repayment coverage compute the top type due via utilising payroll because of the fact the score foundation. in case you hire an insured subcontractor to artwork for you, it somewhat is purely no longer charged against you as payroll on the top of your coverage term whilst the coverage is audited via the coverage employer. be confident to have a contemporary certificates of coverage. in case you are able to't supply a certificates of coverage for that sub, then you will could upload the completed interest value paid out to that sub as payroll. of course this is going to incredibly improve your coverage quotes. P.S. based upon your very own type be waiting for a ask your self once you spot the charges you will could pay for an uninsured roofing subcontractor.

you may want to check your policy for the limited fungi, wet and dry rot endorsement - if the rot is hidden and unknown - then there could be limited coverage for removing the rot, removing portion of the building to get to the rot, but not the actual decking material and labor to repair the roof.

I would doubt it. If the hail damage is recent, it wouldn't have caused the rotting.
