Has anyone used a 'how to' or 'idiots guide' style book for writing?
If so, how useful did you find it? I've studied creative writing before, so know more than just the basics, and was wondering if it was worth investing in one to help me polish my work. Or if I should just get a good editor. Any suggestions?

Editors are great. A good one knows more than you ever will and they can serve as a fresh set of eyes. It doesn't hurt to edit your own work though. That's what I'm trying to do with this book called How to Edit Yourself Into Print. It's very useful. I study creative writing too and the books I've read on it have been helpful. Overall, for me, it was money well spent.

Whatever course you been on ...seemed not to have worked. or you
would have been filled with enthusiasm !! For starters, you need to
know what sort of gender you are writing.. i.e Fictional, Factual or
Biographical..............Then, you have to have a plot, a beginning
middle and an end.... none of the previous to intercede with the other
by all means, carry on , we need Fresh new Authors

buy both.
they are fantastic books because they'll help you polish your grammar and structure.
some argue you really can't teach creative writing, but you can teach grammar
