Growing up my parents had the rule "If you don't like what is cooked then don't eat it and make something yourself" Try it once. Either that or go on stike once and make them cook for themselves maybe that will teach them to respect how much effort you put into cooking dinner for them,

I was a fussy eater as a kid...but I grew out of it, and I learned to be a pretty good cook. Most of the time, I'm only cooking for my wife, and she has no complaints. If I want to try something different, I let her know. If she likes it, the new dish is a keeper. If not...I don't make it again. I get few complaints, though, from her or anyone else including my mother in law, who is a pretty good cook herself. I just have to remember not to make it too spicy--she's a little fussy about that. Otherwise, she's pretty easy going.

I (a guy) was the cook in my family. It is disappointing if someone doesn't like what is served. The house rule does not provide any other options. Eat it or not. My grown children developed a palate for a large variety of cuisine, some of which a taste for must be developed.

Good luck, and don't give up.

Oh yes been there all the time ...may as well go straight from saucepans to the rubbish bin. (My twelve year old hyperventilates if she has vegetables on her plate) But I loved it more when my ex cooked for us and it was awful but he still needed a pat on the head for serving up rubbish. The last meal he ever cooked for my kids was inedible even by the cat's standards.

Tell them you aren't going to cook anymore . See how long they last....

First, I never cook anything new or different for a kid unless I make "stand by" dishes that I know they'll eat. Most kids see anything new/different as weird/strange/yukky. Second, even adults are sometimes picky eaters...so I sneak in the "new" along with something they like. Then I can see if the new/different is a keeper or not.

When my mother would do that she would not automatically expect us to like it. She would simply say "should I keep the recipe?". If we said "no", she knew what that meant. Don't roll the dice if you aren't prepared for anything but a positive answer. People have different tastes.

Oh yeah...that's the best! I love having to cook all day only to come home and make dinner to have them turn their nose up at it.

after that i don't cook for a long while. they can fend for themselves. or have your husband cook, or get the kids involved in dinner.

Lucky for me, my husband never complains about my cooking. But my son complains often. My response is cook it yourself then; and sometimes he does.
