Do you pronounce it "bru shet uh" or "bru sket uh"? I've heard it pronounced both ways.

The correct pronunciation is bru ske ta
Source(s): Italian born & raised I thought rolling the "r" was a given. However "ta" and "uh" sound entirely different and in this case, it is "ta" - Anonymous7 years ago

It's "bruce-kett-ah", don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It is just an anglicism that has come to be acceptable if you pronounce it "bru-shett-ah".
It's from "brusciare", which means "to roast over coals".
I majored in Italian and spent a lot of time in Italy.
Also, just as a side note, there is no such thing as "a panini". Panini is plural. If you want one sandwich, it is a "panino". But nobody says that. In fact, if you do, people look at you weird.
Never you mind, though... you're correct.
