In the U.S. Coast Guard, if your an officer is it possible to be on duty on a ship or on water?

This might be a "dumb" question, but I would like to attend the C.G. Academy, the problem is I don't want to sit in an office 24/7, and would rather have quite a bit of sea-time, is it even possible?

For folks that graduate from the CGA, the huge majority of them are assigned to Cutters for their first duty assignment, so you should be happy about that.

Most young Coast Guard Officer's have quite a bit of duty on a ship or on water:

You can make your preferences known prior to graduation, but you'll be assigned in accordance with the needs of the Coast Guard.
