Why does anyone use POP email anymore?
I've been using web-based email for years now, first with Yahoo and then Google's GMail. When I had dialup service, it was convenient to download messages and view them offline. But now that most people have broadband connections, it seems like there is little reason to use a POP email client like Outlook, Eudora or Thunderbird.
I can see a little justification for businesses due to intellectual property issues and paranoia about industrial espionage, but why would a home user still use POP email.
Gmail (and probably Yahoo, Hotmail, etc) provides almost 8 Gigabytes of mail storage per user, online management, no backup worries, ability to access your email from any computer anywhere etc. How can POP email compete with that?

Dunno, I gave it up long ago.....why not let yahoo pick out the malware and spam? Email infections dropped off the face of the earth after I made this decision.

The first reason would be privacy.
Using a pop email client allows me to download my emails and have them deleted off the server. I keep my emails for years, I don't like the idea that someone could hack into my online email account and see my email.
The second is availability, i.e. some problem on the web or with the email host provider leaves me without access to my e-mail history for a period of time.
The third is productivity.
When I'm working with my email I don't want to be distracted. Advertisements, links to other pages, etc. as are common with online email providers - and in fact its gotten worse lately with video ads.
Also, I use Outlook, and it allows me to set up rules etc. to better manage my email.
Hope this helps.

that is why most businesses have stopped using POP and are using IMAP now instead. Gives you alot of the benefits of POP and web based email in one.
