Ok... First, you're very smart to not leave it for the last minute! Time gives you more options. That said... How to pick a perfect dress:

1) Look for a classic style, that flatters you and won't be out of fashion by the time the event rolls by.

2) Choose a neutral color to be safe, or a seasonal color you are comfortable with.

3) Multitask; it doesn't have to be a dress. Depending on the time and place of the wedding, you can opt for a stunning two-piece ensemble (which you can use again later, or match with other pieces to create new looks).

4) Accessorize! Shoes, handbags, scarves and jewelry, including beautiful belts, can underscore or step up any look.

Next comes the fun part- shopping! Once you've decided on your look, check out all the sales in your area. One of my favorite shops is Banana Republic, as they always have timeless, quality clothing, and great seasonal sales. Finally, never underestimate the power of the 'net! You can find great bargains on the internet if you take the time to look.
