My VCR picture quality has gone bad?
Recently, the picture quality from my VCR has become very grainy and hard to view. The TV picture quality is the same, and this happens for all videos. I suspect that it's either the tape heads need cleaning or something is wrong with the cord connecting the VCR and TV (though there's no visible damage). Any thoughts on the likely cause?
I know, who still uses VCRs anymore? But I have some videos I like to watch. So please don't tell me to just get a DVD player. Thanks!

I think you've guessed the two most likely causes. You should try the cable first, if you have an extra one around, since it's the easiest to try. Clean the heads next; if you can, demagnetize the entire tape path while you're in there, if you don't use a cleaning tape. Also, since you watch a lot of tape, you may have worn the heads down to the point where they need replacement. Unlikely, but if cleaning, demagnetizing, and a new cable don't do it, then it could be the heads are just worn. That's time for a new one...
