Why are Cyclists always hung up on Gear and Parts?

I find few cyclists in my area that want to talk about ripping 30 mph on a backroad, or the "spirit quest" that a long bike ride can be. Nobody brings up when dogs give chase or ladies whistle.

but they will drone on and on and on and on about their hubs, and shiny crap from REI like it's the friggin Holy Grail. Jeez man, just shut up and bike.

Anyone else agree?

There are always going to be people who get hung up on the technical aspects of what they are doing. I must admit, having worked as a bike mechanic, I am interested in all the new stuff that comes out every year, but I also enjoy all the other aspects and experiences of the sport. Be a bit more patient and tolerant of other people's interests.

Well, to me - as a cyclist - I love getting new parts to put on my bike, to make it lighter, stronger, or faster. But, again - to me - in my humble opinion - if you buy a bunch of stuff and it doesn't make you faster, then you've just wasted a bunch of money!

Because I race, I buy stuff that I can use when I race. I'm not some rich guy with a bunch of bikes, either. The bike I ride is the bike I race, so - when I buy stuff and put it on my bike, it's going to make me faster on the street, and on the course, and in time trials, etc.

Now, do I talk about it all the time - only with my riding buddies (team, etc.). They're the only ones who know what I'm talking about, can share advice, give other tips (to and from) and who really even give a s*&t!

I like guys like you, though - because, when we get out on the road, after toasting your butt and getting a half hour ahead of you, I can sit and relax for a while and wait on ya!

Good luck - oh, and when the guys are talking about their gear, listen up - because you might learn something!
