Anyone else experience stabbing pain when putting in contacts(eye)?

For several years now my teenage daughter has had terrible stabbing pains in her eye when putting in contacts. So bad that she cant handle the pain and takes them out within minutes. FIRST off...yes, she is washing her hands thoroughly beforehand and secondly, yes, we have gone back to the eye dr. numerous times and told him and he dosent seem to get HOW painful it is. He just says there can be some discomfort when you put them in after not wearing them for awhile. Discomfort, fine. Pain this intense, not acceptable. So obviously i am switching eye doctors but just curious if anyone else has had this problem? She is using Proclear...the ones that last about 2 weeks or so and we are told they are the strongest made (which Im wonderinig if that has anything to do with the pain?) a +6 and a +9.50

Thanks

Well gotta make sure the contacts are clean, take them and look at them while aiming it at a light, because sometimes they can get pretty dirty...and I think that's what the problem is.

Just wash them off with cold water making sure its clean, put some solution on them and then if they still hurt, she might just not be able to wear contacts.

    Stabbing Pain In Eye

  • 1 decade ago

Hi, I have a toric lens in one of my eyes and it is quite strong and I have been known to have really intense pain when I first put them in, so much so that i have had to take them out almost straight away, it doesn't happen every time, and, usually when I haven't been wearing them very often. I use dailies so i hope this puts your mind at rest that it happens to other people too.

She has them inside out, she has a scratch in her eye, the contact is too big, the contact has dust on it or she has slightly sharp nails... that's all I can think of. I feel like there is something hot and sharp in my eye if there are any of those things wrong.

If this has been going on for years, consider just wearing glasses, it would be better than aggravating her eyes.

Source(s): I hope your daughter gets to the bottom of it and feels better :-)

I had those pains too. I have a blood disorder called landon 5 factor. I had to take blood thinner injections twice a day. I just thought that was the cause of it. Maybe you should call your doctor and ask about it. Maybe they could tell you what the problem is. Sorry i wasnt much help, but i hope everything works out for the best.

Check if you are using contact lens solution that is right for you. This happens to me when i use B&L solution, and I don't know why. Friends that use this solution have no problem, but once I changed it was no problem.

And also, when I first got contacts, apparently from an inexperienced doctor, he gave me lenses that were not fit for my problem of astigmatism. Once i got special lenses for astigmatism, the pain went away.

the pain has nothing to do with the contacts, but MAYBE she's allergic to her SOLUTIONS ??? THEY can and do cause pain...(have her change to Thimerasol FREE..) and maybe you need to find a new eye Dr...he's obviously not the one for you...

her eyes are probably rejecting them. try changing the brand. also, her eyes just might not be able to handle them.
