Cheapest flight from Naples, Italy to LAX, Cali?

There are no direct flights indeed, but you could eventually fly in a major Italian hub and take a connecting flight to Naples, and still get there in a reasonable time: Example: Dec. 27 flight AA198 leaves JFK at 5:35pm, arrives MXP 7:55 am next day Dec. 28 flight AZ1287 leaves MXP at 11:45am, arrives NAP 1:15pm

I'm getting around 1,000 USD, as well. Orbitz (http://www.orbitz.com/ ) and CheapTickets (http://www.cheaptickets.com/ ) have a flight for $925. Other airlines to check would be United (http://www.united.com/ ), Iberia (http://www.iberia.com/ ), Lufthansa (http://www.lufthansa.com/ ), and Air France (http://www.airfrance.com/ ). I also see that KLM Royal Dutch (http://www.klm.com/ ) and Delta (http://www.delta.com/ ) offer that route.

I recommend you hold off. It's commonly thought that the earlier you buy, the cheaper the ticket. In some cases, that's true. However, you don't want to pay full price, either.

I'll also add: I bought a round-trip Barcelona-Boston for $1,000 during almost the same exact time period of 2008. I bought my tickets a few weeks before from Orbitz. Since you're flying a lot longer distance, that's not a bad deal.
