How much should front and back brakes on a '96 Oldsmobile cost?

I just went to get my state inspection sticker and they past my car. But they said that I really need brakes. I was in a rush so I didn't think to ask them any questions about it. I just left. I am not sure if I need both or if I just need front ones.

Another ? I have is, can I go to a place to have them look and tell me what they think without paying anything?

    1.4 hours labor per axle= 75.00 to 90.00 hr.

Pads are approx 40.00 60.00 for "QUALITY" pads.

Rotors are 45.00 85.00 depending on Quality and options.

Brake specials are common right now.

Brake inspections are always free at my shop. If they charge you

make sure it is credited towards the total repair bill.

An average per axle cost during a special is 149.00 to 189.00

with resurfacing your rotors/drums included. Hydraulic parts are extra.

you can usually inspect the brakes, disc caliper brakes by just taking off the tire, looking at how much thickness on the pad you have left.

the rear drum brakes you have to simply pull the drum off and look at them.
