I Got A Computer Question?
They say that once you "delete" something. It really isn't deleted. Is there away to truly removed the deleted item from your computer. What about something that was "deleted" how can you restore that item?
I need help for 98 to Vista with this. I do not want to install any "software". I tried that a year or two ago. It wiped out my entire computer.

You will have to install software if you want to "undelete" files you will only be able to undelete files as long as they haven't been overwritten with new files, 50/50 chance.

If you want to truely delete files for good so they cannot be recovered you'll have to use a program for that too, there are some here:

and no none of these programs will kill your computer.

Once you delete something, it will be sent to the recycling bin, but once you hit delete on the recycling bin, say bye bye. All that may remain are a couple bumps on the hard drive, absolutely not enough left to restore that item. All the bumps are, are tiny fragments, not able to be completely deleted due to a computer being a computer, not perfect, but if you were to wipe everything, all these bumps would be gone, due to every fragment needing to be gone.
These fragments are from the pieces of the file in between other files, so it cant all be reached to delete.
Like with an ipod, we sometimes remove some music, over and over and add and remove and add and remove, but we don't realize after this process, it takes much more energy for the ipod to now read over all the fragments, so every now and again it is good to wipe a hard drive clean, save some energy and runs faster.

You can get a restore program that restores anything you ever deleted as long as you didn't format your computer. it should still be there. Check download.com there's a bunch of recovery programs there. Just search data recovery. But you don't want to install any software, so you can recover something if you already erased it from your recycling bin. You could take it in somewhere but they will charge you a lot to recover something if you are afraid to do it yourself. There's some hardware you could buy that recovers your files. See a lot this requires software though. To delete something, you could overwrite it. Then delete it to make it more difficult to find out what it was,or get some program to ency pt it. The only way, to permanently delete something is too destroy your hard drive. Who knows what they will invent in the future to recover data. It is true they can recover anything on your hard drive, flash-drive, memory card...etc. But doing this stuff makes it more difficult. The only way you can permanently delete something is destroy the source. That's what a lot of colleges do; they destroy their hard drives whenever they scrap a computer. If your afraid to use some software, check out ratings, and make sure you know what You are doing before you use it. You could always back up your files via flash drive, DVD r...etc etc just in case you mess up.

i assume you are usinmg windows 98 or xp.
anyway, once a file is deleted, it isnt truly wiped out. it is just transfered to the recycle bin.
to completely delete the file sin the recycle bin, open recycle bin in the desktop, right click the files.
you will be given an option to restore the files or delete them permanently.
anyway, if u already know what im talking about and u are asking for something deeper, then id tell u:
sometime deleting a file leaves traces, especially images.
for xp users, to loof for these files, go here:
start> my computer> c:> documents and settings > (look for the folder with ur user name)> temp> normal

IDIOTS!!!! ALL OF YOU! The recycle bin deletes it from your view but by default all history for up to 7 days is stored on your computer. The recycle bin is crap. It delets nothing. It makes the consumer feel like they are safe or still have privacy, which they do not. Learn the WINDOWS SYSTEM and you will know by default its set up to record everything you type, see, email, download, upload, etc. This is why so many people have so many problems. Theres this thing called the REGISTRY people, CACHE, TEMP, and it goes on. Give me the vote and email me with your needs and i will help you out. Forget every bit of misinformed info you got from the others.

pci_filerecovery is the software which I have been using since long. It is working fine and approved by me. U can use this s/w to recover any file which was SHIFT+DELETE.

Hope this helps U.
Othervise recovering deleted data is a cumbersome process where in you get the binary/ Hex out of Disk which need to be converted manually. Using s/w makes that easy.
Dont worry Use that.

when you delete something it automatically goes to the recycle bin...if you want to delete it totally just go to recycle bin and delete the file...and if you want to restore the deleted file just go to recycle bin and right click the file then choose restore.

If you haven't emptied the 'Recycle Bin', it is still there. Open recycle bin, select your file and click File>restore .
If you have emptied the recycle bin, then you have to use Recuva.
http://recuva.com/ . Believe me, it doesn't cause any problem.
