Tax or Audit for accounting profession?

How would I go about choosing the one I want to get my masters in?

What kind of personalities go with each?

You really should get experience with both before deciding to get your masters. I thought I would love auditing, and found out that I only like auditing a very VERY small and specialized entity- the employee benefit plan. Otherwise, I HATE it. But I love the principles behind it, which is why you definitely should get experience with it before deciding where to spend 20 grand.

On the other hand, I thought I'd be somewhat indifferent to tax, but have found that I really enjoy some tax- especially corporate and trust and estate tax. Really, had I chosen what field I wanted to specialize in without having any real-life experience, I would be hating myself right now. Get an internship at the very least, and try a few things out.

    Good luck! :0)

I work as a tax accountant, and have to tell you that its important that you get experience.

I have had friends and co workers who have switched to auditing or started to specialize in other fields.

It does depend on your goals, this may impact if you want to be in tax or audit.
