Can having a mental illness keep you out of China even if you no longer have it?

Until recently I suffered from several mental "illnesses" that were actually symptoms of a physical problem. When my health improved, my psych symptoms went away. The visa application says if you HAVE any mental illness you will be denied entry-- not if you have had them in the past. Also, do they really lump things like depression and specific phobias with leprosy and TB?!

It is more likely that wanting to teach in China is a sign of a mental illness. JUST JOKING!

    No, it will not.

They are not going to check, which is good. ALso if they cant tell, not like they would try and tell then you are good to go. Just mark no because like you said its in the past and not now. They are just worry that you will transmit the illness to other people in the country. But you are fine now, I hope. Just check No (:

    Have fun!

No, it will not prevent you from working in China unless you intend to live or work there in which case you have to complete a medical form and take an exam once you are in China. You cant be taking anti depressant meds..

Just don't put it on your visa form, they will not check it and there not likely to as it would be against the doctor-patient trust and against the polity of your doctors clinic to give out any information to third party sources.

Just answer "no" then. It is not like they are going to call your doctor for your visa application.
