Is it normal to see pieces of rawhide in dog's poop?

I just got my dog about 3 weeks ago. Today I noticed a bunch of white "pieces" in his poop. I don't know if it's just rawhide pieces or if its some kind of worms. Should I be worried or just take the poop to the vet and see what happens?

Update:

I might just have to let the voters decide this one. A lot of good feedback. Thanks all!

I would take the dog to vets with a sample of he stool. Did you give him rawhides? Just to make sure the dog is ok go to the vets.

I dont recommend giving dogs rawhides because if consumed it could expand in the stomach and then there's a couple of thousands of dollars in surgery. Not only that but it could lodge in the his throat. Just be very careful if you decide to give one to him.

Good luck and I hope he's ok.

If the pieces are big then it is probably just raw hide. If they are small and you can't really tell then you should just take it to the vet to make sure. Worms can do a lot of damage to dogs, so it is better to be safe than sorry.

It needs to be checked out. It could just be bits of rawhide, its not always digestable, but if they are small white pieces that look kinda like long grain rice, it sounds like tape worm.

With spring here, fleas are becoming active again. Make sure you have your dog on heart worm and flea medication to prevent future problems. But take him to the vet now and have him de wormed just to be sure.

Guide dogs schools to not allow their puppy raisers to give rawhide anything for their dogs to chew. They allow things like Nylabones and Kong toys. Rawhide can cause bowel obstruction. Of course, their dogs cost about $40K each to breed, raise and train.

Why take a chance when you have alternatives?

Yes it is possible because that stuff often goes right through. However, it could equally well be worms, so I think, if he's not been wormed (or as you have just got him, unless you have a worming certificate, or equivalent from where you got him) it might be as well to get him wormed (or have a stool sample checked).

Animals aren't nearly as picky as humans. Once I was walking in the woods and came across some raccoon poop that had a piece of Tennessee Pride sausage wrapper in it.

Are you feeding him the right food? You should take your dogs poop to the vet anyway just to be on the safe side.

Probably rawhide, just like you can see corn in your poo sometimes. But would suggest taking the dog to the vet so they can get a stool sample and test it just to be sure.

Yes its normal because rawhide is not digestible and dangerous. I would never give my guys thats chemically doused crap.
