My wife is a great singer--I want to hook up the computer to Youtube her performance--but--the best way is...?

I have two laptops and a desktop. All basic inputs on them. I want to help her create a QUALITY peformance using a video input device and an audio input device. The background track will be a karaoke version of the song she wants to sing (although I don't know if it should be played aloud while she sings, or mixed through a board which I do own and then routed into the computer, or some other method). We have a little money to burn but not tons. Can anyone provide me with some advice? FYI, I am computer literate and used to DJ in college at the radio station so I'm also familiar with audio technical terms. I'm not quite as literate with video. Thank you so much in advance!

Make sure you have a camera with an external microphone output. (an output to use another microphone rather than the built in one) Buy a condenser microphone. You should be able to get one for 100-150 bucks minimum. I recommend musiciansfriend.com. It should have an XLR output. Hook the XLR output into the mixer's XLR input. Then hook the mixer's output into the external microphone. It'd be best if you played the track through the mixer, that way she could hear the track while she's singing and hear her voice at the same time through headphones. Then once the sound levels are where you want them, record the video.
