Silly question about baby girls?

Hi everyone!

I have a very silly question, but maybe all you mommies of little girls can help me out! I have two boys, my husband and I know all about little boys, raising them, changing them, potty training them, etc...

In 9 short weeks we are having a baby girl and got to talking and were wondering if it is harder to change a little girls diaper? Especially if its one of those giant messy poops that goes everywhere (you moms know what I mean!) The all the way up the front of the diaper kinda poop!

Is it harder to change a baby girl? I'm a bit concerned because with all the little folds on a tiny vagina there's lots of places for the poop to get into!

Update:

Everyone with girls keeps saying that they worry about changing boys LOL Its so easy with a boy! There are no "inside" bits, you just have to move the "outside" bits out of the way, although it can be a pin to try and get poo off of wrinkly little baby balls :)

its funny, my husband and I were talking about this just the other day. Our first was a girl and we thought our boy would be so much easier to change, and we both agree that its harder with the boy! As long as you wipe front to back and make sure all the outside parts are clean, you will be fine. If she gets some poop inside her parts, it will come out on its own naturally. Its just scary to you because its new. Me on the other hand, I am terrified I will wipe my boy too hard and hurt him on accident! you are right about the wrinkly little baby balls!! lol.

I wouldn't say it is easier or harder...just different. Here is my poop explosion technique with disposable diapers (let me know if you need help with cloth, but it is about the same):

Before undoing the diaper I make sure I have a clean one ready and several wipes pulled out and ready to go. They I undo the diaper and hold her legs up. I start with the main part of the mess and the mess that is on her back side. Once I clean the area that would be against the changing pad I will set her back down and get into the nitty gritty. I will take a wipe and seperate her legs to get the creases in between her leg fat and the outside of her vagina (both sides). Then I gently wipe inside of the vagina folds downward (towards her butt) because pop always finds its way in there. The key is to always wipe towards the butt and not up towards the vagina because it can push more poop and bacteria in the no-no zone which is obviously bad. I then do a final quick once over to make sure there is none left over and there you have it!

I am pretty thorough, but because of it we have had no problems with yeast infection or bad diaper rash.

Ok, I know what you mean. I have a 7 week old son after having 2 girls and it is a bit easier to change him but he also has that tendency to pee right on me with that little firehose of his and I have to change him fast since it's like a ticking timebomb,

As for cleaning your girl, just give her a wipe, gently spread apart her vagina and if you see poop clean it... but you don't have to go crazy. The vagina is pretty self cleaning.

Just remember to always wipe front to back. Don't want to wipe poop into her urethra. That's the biggest concern with girls. I still wipe my son front to back out of habit. lol

  • I have a little girl one and half and in 10-12 weeks another little girl, I don't have a boy but I can honestly say girls i think would be easy! you don't have to worry about pee in your face ha ha, but honestly it is easy changing a girl you just need to wipe the anus area first then wipe the vagina area last make sure you go front to back. Its common in girls to get yest infections and as long as you wipe anus first then the vagina area next you should be safe :) hope that helps! ;)

that's a reasonable question...i was the other way around after having a girl then a boy.

it's not difficult, you just wipe the areas you can see. you don't have to wipe inside as that is fairly self cleaning as i understand it. always make sure you clean from front to back.

if your unsure check with your doctor. i'm sure they get asked that a lot!

and good luck with the birth!

I have a boy and I do think at first it's easier with a boy. I did think at first it was hard to change my baby girl but just about a month later and she gained weight it got easier. Now I think boys are harder.

Just remember to wipe from front to back not back to front. If any gets inside just gently open her up and get it out.

Do not use baby powder on her bottom, it can cause infections.

Just use the wipes like you would on the boy but check her more closly when you are done.

    Congrats.

When wiping her make sure that you are wiping towards the bum area. Never the other way. this can cause infections.

Also use a nappy rash cream and maybe you should try the sensitive wipes to begin with.

At the hospital ask them to show you how and they are usually more than happy to oblige.

It's all the same. Even the wiping front to back doesn't made much difference to baby girls as poop gets everywhere in nappies, as I'm sure you've experienced.

i have a little girl and i always worry about when and if i have boys changing there diapers. you just have to remember to keep them extra clean, and when you first take them home they may have a little discharge from there vagina and its nothing to worry about. i know if the nurse hadn't told us that i would have freaked out. congrats
