How much is my TV worth?
I want to sell my 3 year old rear-projection Sony LCD TV. It is 1080 HD and 52 inches and comes with the Sony stand that it mounts to and is in mint condition. I want to upgrade to a wall mount.
I spent $2500 on it 3 years ago and I know I won't get anywhere near that for it but does anyone have a rough estimate?
4 AnswersTVs1 decade agoShould "ebonics" be taught as a recognized language in public schools?
Some larger cities are trying pilot programs of "Afrocentric Schools". These are public schools for black children to learn about the culture and traditions of their own history in a public school system designed "by them, for them".
These schools exist in both the US and Canada and they seem to be getting mixed reviews from all sides. One of the trial subjects being covered is "ebonics"...which some would call gang slang and others would defend as an African American/Canadian language. Others would call it simply poorly spoken English and bad grammar.
What are your thoughts on this being taught to your children? Languages constantly evolve and adapt. English has certainly changed over the last 600 years and change can be good. All answers appreciated, this is purely a curiosity thing :)
5 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoWeaning and periods? Anyone?
Hi everyone!
I got regular periods every month when nursing even though a lot of women don't and now that I have stopped nursing I haven't had a period in 33 days!
Has anyone else missed a period right after stopping nursing? For over a week I have had constant cramping, like menstrual cramps but not AF!
And to rule out pregnancy, my husband was snipped two months ago and we always always always use condoms until we get the all-clear from the doctor on him (it takes 3 months for the man to be sterile after being snipped).
I picked up a test this morning out of paranoia and it was negative....sooooooo?
Anyone else go through this when they stopped breastfeeding?
1 AnswerNewborn & Baby1 decade agoMastitis help! Infection in other breast while still on antibiotics?
Last Monday I become very very sick in a short period of time, fever, chills, body aches, etc. The emergency room told me I had a very bad case of mastitis and would be put on IV antibiotics for 3 days and pills for 7.
Now it is 6 days into treatment and the breast seems much better and I am coming down with another case in my other breast! I am still on antibiotics and don't understand how a second case is possible right now.
Has this happened to anyone? Is it possible? I will be seeing a doctor as soon as possible. We were hit by a hurricane today and it is pretty crazy outside, so tomorrow will likely be the earliest I can see a doctor.
2 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoCulture question regarding diversity? Black and White question?
Good Afternoon! I'm not trying to stir up a pot of trouble or anything but I have seen a lot of diversity related questions today and wanted to hear from everyone!
I am not trying to cause trouble or offend so please bear that in mind. I am not an American but am fascinated by your country and am a huge history nerd....so here we go:
Why is it that when an African-American comes out of poverty through hard work and determination, gets an education and a successful career he is ostracized for "trying to be white". This seems prejudiced against everyone involved. But I hear so many people talk like this!
I live in a moderate sized city with a large inter-racial population due to many escaped slaves coming here and settling with the help of the underground-railway. I hear this mentality when I shop in pre-dominantly "black" areas.
If a person who works hard to get out of a slum achieves their goal why are they looked down on as trying to be "white" or "is just doing what the white people expect" (these are things I have actually heard)...what else should they be trying to do?
Why does this happen? Anyone with an open mind and an insight please answer, and again I am not trying to offend anyone.
3 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoCracking down on teens? Opinions from moms please?
With texting and the internet so popular now, more and more teen girls are taking lewd pics of themselves and posting them online without regard for their own safety or the law. Anyone they sent those pics to is automatically guilty of looking at child porn in the eyes of the law because that photo subject is under 18. People forgot that the term child is applied when teens are involved.
I recently read a news story where the teen girls who took the pics of themselves where charged with making and distributing child pornography (even if it was of themselves). The judge was fairly harsh on them because he wanted them to understand the severity of what they had done.
In a case such as this, I want to know how many parents, and other teen girls, feel this was right? Who thinks these girls should be charged under the same law as the worst of the sex offenders and who thinks these matters should be left up to the parents?
9 AnswersParenting1 decade agoWhen did using the term "nutted" to describe ejaculation become socially acceptable?
Seriously, its disgusting! Isn't "come" good enough? Does this gross anyone else out? I keep seeing it used on here in the TTC and Pregnancy area.
14 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoVeneer vs Composite Resin?
I am getting some small spaces between my front top teeth filled in. My teeth are straight, just a little small and there are unflattering gaps. No one else notices them, but I do so YES it is purely for vanity reasons.
Money is not an issue but I am having a hard time deciding between the two. My dentist has given me the green light for either option but I want to hear from people who may have had either option.
Opinions?
Thanks :)
2 AnswersDental1 decade agoDoes anyone wonder about Michael Jackson's kids?
As a mom of three, I can't help but wonder in the wake of Jackson's death, is anyone wondering what will happen to those poor children? As in who do you think will take care of them now as their mother has never been a part of their lives and their father is dead. Do you think they may have a chance of a normal childhood now?
No one knows what they look like so they could have anonymous, normal lives now :)
But seriously, has anyone else wondered this?
And in terrible taste, I apologize, do you think Rosie, Madonna and Angie will start fighting over them? LOL
3 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoAny other mommies...?
Are there any other moms out there that were due to have their baby close to the end of June that have had their babies already?
I just brought my 11 day old, 5 lb 5 oz preemie daughter home from the NICU and was wondering if anyone else is in my shoes?
2 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoHey Fellow Pregnant Ladies.....?
What are you all craving today and how far along are you?
I am 36 weeks....and when my son wakes up from his nap, we're going for a walk so I can get myself a Wunderbar. Mmmmmm chocolate and peanutty butter goodness!
How about you?
7 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoIs this a compliment?
I was grocery shopping the other day and this older lady behind me in line pointed straight at me and muttered to her fellow old lady "See that? Thats a shame! That poor girl will never finish high school. Such a young baby and another already on the way".
I am 28 years old and had my 16 month old in a buggy and am 35 weeks pregnant. I am also happily married, graduated from high school 11 years ago and went to college and university. Graduated both of those too LOL
Should I take it that I look good for a 28 year old? My husband thinks I was being oversensitive and thinks it should make me feel good about myself, but I was worrying that it makes me look like a punk kid on Jerry, Sally or Maury LOL
So ladies, is this a compliment?
9 AnswersOther - Pregnancy & Parenting1 decade agoMy 8 year old is learning a new "vocabulary"!?
My eight year old son goes to an all French school, they speak no English at all and are not supposed to when they are on the playground. I realize this is a flimsy, hard to enforce rule....anyways...
My shy, soft-spoken son has recently been using new vocabulary around the house. For example, he came home from school and our dog shoved her nose in his crotch and he yelled, 'Mom! The dog won't stop sniffing my nuts!'
He was playing chess with his dad and pointed out that some of the pieces looked like "weiners".
Is this a normal boy phase? Where they just giggle about new words to refer to the genitals? We always use the proper names (penis, vagina) around the house. I have since explained that slang terms are vulgar and rude and we do not use them in our house.
Where the heck is my son learning these words?!?! I guess my question is "Is this a normal little boy phase?"
11 AnswersGrade-Schooler1 decade agoSilly question about baby girls?
Hi everyone!
I have a very silly question, but maybe all you mommies of little girls can help me out! I have two boys, my husband and I know all about little boys, raising them, changing them, potty training them, etc...
In 9 short weeks we are having a baby girl and got to talking and were wondering if it is harder to change a little girls diaper? Especially if its one of those giant messy poops that goes everywhere (you moms know what I mean!) The all the way up the front of the diaper kinda poop!
Is it harder to change a baby girl? I'm a bit concerned because with all the little folds on a tiny vagina there's lots of places for the poop to get into!
14 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoWhat is with this baby name trend?
I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant with a little girl, and am a mom to two boys. My husband and I have noticed this crazy baby trend over the last two years or so!
What is with this crazy modern trend of "unique" names or alternate spellings to be "different" but the thing is that is seems almost everyone is now doing this so they aren't different or unique at all. Some of the names are quite lovely but it just seems to be the current "hip" thing.
So my two questions are:
(1) Will we have an entire generation of people sick and tired of having to spell their names out for people in twenty year?
(2) What will historians chalk this phenomenon up to?
Humor me, I'm on bed rest for the next 11 weeks until the baby is born!
8 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoCMV infection during pregnancy? Anyone else experience this?
Ok, I'm 24 weeks pregnant with a baby girl and my husband and I have two beautiful, healthy boys. I recently tested positive for a primary CMV infection, the kind that is most harmful to the baby.
I am looking for experiences from other mothers who also found out that they had the infection and passed it on to their babies. I do NOT want answers explaining CMV or links to more websites, please just your own personal story so I don't feel so alone.
If have not had this infection please do not bother answering. It will just waste everyone's time.
Thanks so much!
1 AnswerPregnancy1 decade agoGood middle name to go with Meredith?
My husband and I are naming our daughter Meredith. We were going to use Grace as a middle name but now it seems like everyone else on the planet is using Grace as a middle name too this year. What are some good alternates?
21 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoCan you opt for a c-section in the province of Nova Scotia if your last two deliveries were via c-section?
I am living in Ontario and am on my third (and final) pregnancy, but I am moving to Nova Scotia when I am 16 weeks along. My two previous deliveries were by c-section, one was an emergency and the second one was because I developed a heart condition that prevented me from taking the stress of labour. My third pregnancy so far (knock on wood) has been perfectly fine, not even morning sickness, but after 2 c-sections I am weary of trying to deliver naturally. Does anyone know if you can elect to have a c-section with 2 priors in the province of Nova Scotia?
