Mastitis help! Infection in other breast while still on antibiotics?
Last Monday I become very very sick in a short period of time, fever, chills, body aches, etc. The emergency room told me I had a very bad case of mastitis and would be put on IV antibiotics for 3 days and pills for 7.
Now it is 6 days into treatment and the breast seems much better and I am coming down with another case in my other breast! I am still on antibiotics and don't understand how a second case is possible right now.
Has this happened to anyone? Is it possible? I will be seeing a doctor as soon as possible. We were hit by a hurricane today and it is pretty crazy outside, so tomorrow will likely be the earliest I can see a doctor.

I have had 5 cases of mastitis since breastfeeding my 5month son once you get your more prone to it its not likely you have a 2nd case of mastitis on the 2nd breast while on antibiotics but you can have a clogged milk duct on the other side and it is very important that you continue the antibiotics till the very end. If you do have a 2nd case on the 2nd breast it is probably that your baby is carrying the infection in his her mouth which is possible and your baby needs to be treated with medication as well. Here is a link all about mastitis its the best out there Ive done alot of research on this so I know. Good luck and keep applying hot then cold compress on breast take hot showers and massage breast and get to your dr. and bring baby so they can test him/her as well. It's still possible to get a blocked milk duct which will cause the pain and lumps, it might just not develop into full mastitis. If you are breastfeeding make sure you are fully emptying both breasts frequently. To help take a shower or use warm compresses before feeding or pumping, feeding directly is better. Avoid wearing tight bras or bras with underwire and be sure not to sleep on your stomach.
