My 8 year old is learning a new "vocabulary"!?

My eight year old son goes to an all French school, they speak no English at all and are not supposed to when they are on the playground. I realize this is a flimsy, hard to enforce rule....anyways...

My shy, soft-spoken son has recently been using new vocabulary around the house. For example, he came home from school and our dog shoved her nose in his crotch and he yelled, 'Mom! The dog won't stop sniffing my nuts!'

He was playing chess with his dad and pointed out that some of the pieces looked like "weiners".

Is this a normal boy phase? Where they just giggle about new words to refer to the genitals? We always use the proper names (penis, vagina) around the house. I have since explained that slang terms are vulgar and rude and we do not use them in our house.

Where the heck is my son learning these words?!?! I guess my question is "Is this a normal little boy phase?"

Sigh - yes, it's 'normal' - it's just kids talking on the playground.

Just talk to him again about which words are appropriate and which are not. You have to do this over and over at this age...

Your son must be picking this up at school. No offense, but about the penis and vagina...really? Don't you find it slightly odd that an eight year old is saying this? Honestly, how do you think his relationships are going to unfold if he was taught to say that instead of "slang"?

you gotta ask your self where did he hear it from did he pick it up at school. Hes eight that puts him in third grade the kids are probably picking things up from there older siblings and saying them around school and that's why hes bring it home just its is probably just a phase but just stay firm with the its rude and vulgar and don't let him get away with it cause he will probably try if your gonna punish him make sure you stick to it

Most kids at school aren't going to use the words penis. My boys call their balls, nuts, nutty friends. Weiner, weiner shnitzul, worm, weenie, dig a ling, ding dong. They are just being boys and I'm sure he has heard most other boys calling it this. The other boys would probably think him odd if he pointed at something and said that looks just like a penis. That would seem strange to them.

That sounds like a normal little kid phase.

I've had similar problems with my 7 yr old and 6 yr old daughters and the words that they learn from some of the kids at their school.

Just keep telling him that those are not words that your family uses.

    He'll eventually get over it.

My son is is significantly younger than yours and already has colorful language, and we raised are kids to say Penis & Vagina and they do, except when they are trying to be funny/sarcastic they will use terms they picked up from other sources.

I would say it is perfectly normal for your son to say those things, and hey it could be a lot worse. Humans find nicknames for everything, it's very common.

Yeah its normal, he'll grow out of it.

Just wait until he gets to the 'cursing at everything that moves' stage.

How often would you be saying penis and vagina around him?

Instead of teaching him proper words i would just say to him, if its not something you would say infront of a priest then dont say it at all.

i think its perfectly normal.....like they say..boys will be boys...my son is only two and calls his penis his "ting ting" my son and my Husband just laugh and laugh about it...i just guess it bacouse its a boy thing

i see this vulgar language more than ever.

i hear people say "what up hoe?" "what's up ****?" "let's bang"

They are kidding, but i don't think those are appropriate or funny.
