It is not cheaper and producers now do not care if it is sustainable, that will only matter when we use up other fuels.

Because, at the present time, most green energy is not cheaper to produce. Technology continues to improve, but sources such as solar and wind power are not more sustainable than petroleum based sources. Add in the greed of green energy producers who see a window of opportunity to charge premium prices and you have the current situation.

Nobody who knows what they are talking about claims green energy is cheaper. If it were cheaper we'd all be using it already without anyone prodding us to. Coal is by far the cheapest energy. Aside from hydro (which cannot be expanded much, if at all), green energy is more costly, often MUCH more costly.

Forms of green energy may be more sustainable but that doesn't make them any less costly. The fact that wind will still blow in 100 years doesn't lessen the cost of building and operating a wind turbine.

Energy prices are virtually a direct measure of ecological efficiency. Factors that wouldn't occur to you and I DO get folded into the price. Take solar - do you know HOW to make photovoltaic cells? Got any idea of the "rare mineral" cost or the longevity of the equipment? Can you "recycle" worn-out cells? At our state of technology, an average array will not last long-enough to pay for its manufacture. Anyone who understands what prices are and how they work knows this is because there are MORE EFFICIENT uses for the same resources.

More expensive = more ecologically harmful. Bank on it. This is nearly an iron natural law.
