Why do Christians celebrate Easter?

At least Christmas was renamed when it was appropriated. Easter is still named after a pagan fertility goddess! (And how many Christians who celebrate Easter have asked why atheists celebrate Christmas?)

Why do Single people celebrate Valentines, why do non-irish people celebrate St. Patty's day, why do non-mexicans celebrate cinco de mayo. Corporate America, just trying to squeeze a few more dollars out of us.

I say we go like the caribbean and have a party every day of the year.

Yes, Christians celebrate Easter, but only as to celebrate the great happenings of our Lord, Jesus.

It's really the day of Resurrection, or Resurrection Sunday.

Easter is just a name given to the feast of Passover, which was the time of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus.

And Christians didn't appropriate Christmas from paganism it is the other way round. Fuuny how this lie keeps being repeated ad nauseum, read some proper history for a change, not biased propaganda.

  • Celebrating the resurrection is just as important as celebrating the birth of the savior. we chose those particular time periods so that we could mask the pagan holiday and it would be remembered and celebrated as a Christian one. Also we like to make our kids think that people sneak into the house alot and leave gifts and the candy is good!

Easter is too celebrate the resurection of Jesus. the bunny, the eggs, the tree and Santa from Christmas, all have nothing to do with Christianity. They are pagan ideas that got into it, and my history teacher told me why but i forgot.

We maybe should rename it PASSOVER but we weren't around when someone chose the calendar date & named the holiday due to some pagan event, no doubt. MOST of our holidays, however steeped in Christian history or doctrine have pagan roots - we all know that.

The Feast of the Passover was the Jewish traditional feast which became the most important Christian event - that being Christ's atonement and resurrection.

Christmas of course, should be based in CHrist's birth - which much of the world forgets and ignores in lieu of santa and presents and materialism.

    We don't.

Christians celebrate the Day of the Resurrection of Jesus.

My birthday is often celebrated on the 4th of July, but I'm not Uncle Sam.

Finite number of days per year.

    Infinite number of holidays.

Do you think there might be some overlap, Huh?

The secular celebrations and the joy of Jesus' Resurrection converge nicely in springtime, is why. Church fathers did a nice job 'marrying' the two both now and at Christmastime. Relax and enjoy.
