My husband wants to buy expensive, sound reduction, headphones for a female employee of his.?

My husband is a principal partner in a large firm. She travels quite a bit for him. He thinks it would just be a nice thing to do to make traveling more comfortable. The longest flight is about 4 hours. She is very well paid and is always put up at upper class hotels, all expenses paid. I think this is a little inappropriate as he has other employees as well. I told him he should buy her some lingerie too so she is comfortable in her hotel room. Yeah, that sounds catty, but aren't expensive gifts from your boss a little weird?

As you've said that she travels quite a bit FOR him then to me it seems like just a nice gesture. I'd imagine if it was a male employee then he'd still want to do the same. Would you feel a different way about it if he wanted to buy them for a male?

It sounds like both her and you husband probably make good money- it would seem strange to buy her something cheap- He most likely wants to buy her something she can use while she is doing him a great favor- it's nice he does not have to travel when she goes for him.

Also, what gift should he buy her? Men giving gifts to women can be tricky- he may not want to come off too personal- headphones are a platonic gift.

If you trust your husband and know there is nothing behind it don't get upset and read too much into it. The last thing he wants is a nice gesture he has being read into wrong and you getting upset and overly jelous- men don't like that. (I used to be more easily catty with my husband too- but it's not worth it)

If he isn't buying things like that for his other employees, then yes it's inappropriate. She makes good money...let her spring for her own headphones if she wants them. However, if he routinely buys expensive gifts for his other employees, than it's probably the gender issue that has you bugged.

Why would he tell you about it if it were bad behavior. I think he's rewarding her and trying to keep her happy. If it were a guy, you wouldn't have had anything to say. Try to be a grown up. Being married to a jealous child is really tedious.
